Don't be a filibuster!

Hola!

So, for the first time in 4.5 years my workload at AHL is fairly light! So, I’m done for the day and had some random things to just blurt out. Don’t worry though I’m sure my plate will be full in no time. It’s actually perfect timing because I have been studying hardcore for my Govt exam that’s on Monday of next week. I actually am starting to feel a bit confident about it because it’s not actual HISTORY and remembering dates. We’re going over Congress, Presidency, and The Courts. Yay!

As some of you know ‘Creeper’ was my favorite word a couple of weeks ago. All the cool college kids use it. It’s not quite a stalker, but someone who is just….creepy. So I think that now filibuster is my new word. Going over what ‘filibuster’ means, you can totally use it as another kind of noun and a verb!

Actual definition - A delaying tactic, used in the Senate that involves speech-making to prevent action on a piece of legislation

New Verb: We’ll use the name Chuck. Chuck is a clingy guy you’ve only gone on a few dates with. Chuck wants a 5 year relationship within 5 days. Chuck is pathetic. You had to put an end to it. So... You have to give a long speech to prevent action between you two……

You have to filibuster his ass.

New Noun: Girls Night Out! Single Gal is talking to Hot Boy. Single Gal's friend Chatty Cathy won't stop talking or leave Single Gal & Hot Boy alone. She is a delaying tactic involving speech-making to prevent action on a piece of legislation... or in this case... well you know what kind of piece I’m talking about.

Chatty Cathy can now be known as a filibuster.

Who’s passin this exam? Yup, right here.

Anyway, other than studying, not a whole lot is going on in my world. I’m almost done with my semester! Can you believe it?? My last exam is on the 9th or 10th. Sweet right?! It’ll go by so fast! I have things every weekend to do from now till Christmas. I’m going home this weekend for my friend Brianne’s shower de la bebe! I’m so excited to see everyone especially her lovely lady bump! I think that’s about it. I’m about to go eat with the grandparents. Can I just tell you eating at 5:30 p.m. is getting old. Pun intended.

Oh the college life.
Football. Family. Friends.

It was one hell of a weekend here in the typical slow-paced, Lubbock, TX. As it’s been announced I don’t know how many times, Texas Tech Red Raiders beat the University of Texas Longhorns. It was one hell of a game too. Halloween ended up being just a tiny bit of the weekend.

I was supposed to go to some college parties with my cousin Lindsey, but wasn’t really in the mood, plus my dad was coming into town.
Lindsey still dressed up:

This was the funniest costume I've ever seen.

This is what she normally looks like:

Anyway, I was going to go as Medusa, and got half way ready and then stopped….
Photobucket

I stopped because my dad got into town with his friend Scott.
I decided to hang out with him instead. Here we are at Fox & Hound.
Photobucket
Jes & Jeff came up there too!

A very normal bathroom shot of Jes & me.

Sadly, Scott was here to cheer for UT. Boo.
Please ignore his burnt orange shirt.

This pic made me laugh.
Jes is throwing her ‘Guns Up’ at Scott’s ‘Longhorn’.

Anyway, next day was the big game!
The Will Rodgers statue was even dressed up for the event.

I had so much fun with my dad.
It was an absolute blast!
My dad & I tailgating.

Kaylee, me, & Lindsey tailgating!

Unfortunately we were sitting in a burnt orange hummer and sitting on a Longhorn rug. Ew!!!!!

Ahhh the game at Jones Stadium!!

We win!

And the crowd goes wild!

It was the best weekend ever!! We all had fun and we’re all still recovering! I had good family, good friends, good football. Can it get any better?

Oh – if you DVR’ed Game Day, watch it again. My dad’s on there towards the end. Fast forward until there is about 24-25 minutes left of the show, and there he is, in a good 3-4 second clip, screaming his head off. It was absolutely hilarious! We gotta get it up on YouTube somehow!

That’s really all that’s gone here in Raiderville. This upcoming weekend’s game is against OSU – Cowboys. Yikes! I hope our Raiders play with their heart again. My friend Brian from back home is coming into town with his wife Melissa & some of their friends. I’m going to the game with them and am SUPER excited! I love this college life.

Shout out to my sister though! She’s in the band at Vista Ridge & they made it to state again!!!! They compete on Tuesday. Way to go VRHS Band!!!!!!!!!!!

Out.

Do not come away with me!

So Charlie and I were talking earlier and I brought up that I absolutely love Norah Jones, but sometimes I hate listening to her. Really just her 1st cd because it throws an old boyfriend in my face, but I love the cd. I thought he was going to tell me that was stupid, but he agreed and said my feelings were shared by everyone. "Ask anyone if they have a favorite song or artist ruined because it reminds them of someone or something and they'll say yes every time."

So, out of curiosity, what song/artist is ruined because it reminds of you of an ex?

Here are a couple of mine:
Again, Norah Jones - Come Away With Me (This one is the worst for me.)

The Cure - Just Like Heaven
(It's not that bad for me. Still a great tune & I can listen to it still without wanting a bottle of Jack & a razor. Jk.)

I wanna put on my my my my my boogie shoes

Well, I’m one year closer to completing my 20s. I haven’t celebrated my birthday in Lubbock in a really long time, and was a bit skeptical of partying it up in the Depot District. However, it turned out to be a great birthday!

I turned 27 on Thursday and unfortunately, I had 2 exams that day. Fortunately, I made A’s on both exams - 100 & 96 woo-woo! I was worn out from studying, so I decided to stay in & have a quiet dinner with my grandparents. Plus all of my shows were coming on: What up 2-1-2?

I received calls, comments, and text messages from all of my friends and cards wishing me a great birthday.
Brianne sent me this ecard, and it made me laugh:

Friday was celebration day. Pat & Leroy Behnke won 4 tickets to see KC & The Sunshine Band and they gave them to us for my birthday. It was a blast. Here are some pics from the night.

Jes gave me a boyfriend-voodoo doll.
It brought me no luck or anything that night. Boo!
Photobucket

We started off at Melt. Me, Jessica, and Kara.
Kara is going to be my new single friend sidekick.
Yay! Finally a single girlfriend!
Photobucket

Jeff was there. He was doing most of the photography. Thanks Jeff!

Austin had ACL. Lubbock has LMF. Lubbock Music Festival.

We like Cactus Courtyard because of the cheap drinks and the amazing dance floor with no one on it except for Jes & I.
Photobucket

Here’s Jessica & I dancing in the street to KC & The Sunshine Band.

These last 2 are photos of us kind of up close, but we couldn’t figure out the settings on Jessica’s camera.

Please notice the man with a permed mullet to the right.

The concert was a blast and KC was actually still a really good performer. He gave a shout-out to all the young folks out in the crowd:

"I was your mother's NSYNC. Get a good look at me. This is what Justin Timberlake will look like in 20 years. What the hell happened?"

My birthday finally wrapped up on Saturday & Sunday with the family. We all just ate, watched a LOT of football and just hung out. It was nice. I’m definitely blessed with good friends and good family. Thanks for all the birthday wishes & for making it a good one!

Another Pic I Found

Because I'm lame and haven't started carrying my camera around everywhere yet, I'm having to steal pictures from other people.

Anyway, here's a picture of our new Jones Stadium Aquatic Center.
Photobucket
Mind you... Texas Tech is playing SMU here tomorrow. We'll see how that goes.

I'll try to add more pictures later on throughout of the Lubbock "Centennial Rain" on this post.

Back in the Saddle Again

As most of you know, I made the move back to Lubbock, TX to attend Texas Tech University. My friend back home, Brianne, suggested that I start blogging all of the things so I can keep her updated with pictures. So here we are.

Anyway, I just wrapped up my 3rd week of school and so far so good. However, today classes were canceled. Lubbock is flooded. Here's a pic I stole from another blog:

This is pretty much what it looked like all around campus. Being the good student I am, I went to class yesterday at 5 and the water was up to my knees. Come to find out my professor never showed. There were 7 out of 40 of us that showed up. We waited a while then decided to just leave. So I trucked it back to my car. Awful.

Anyway, I'm really liking my classes. I have a way cool professor for Intro to Mass Comm. I have 3 exams next week so wish me luck! And other than that I'm just trying to still get adjusted to a smaller city and more street lights than freeways.
